Lip anatomy is one of the most variable aspects of the human face, and a great deal of objective and subjective analysis is performed with patients during a lip lift consultation. This is the most commonly performed lip lift procedure across all ages and hides the scar discreetly under the base of the nose. The subnasal lip lift addresses only the upper lip. Dr. Khelemsky begins by marking the naturally curvy crease under your nose, which outlines where to place the incision for maximum camouflage. A variable amount of skin may be removed, and the more skin that is removed, the greater your lift. Next, the area is numbed with Lidocaine, and then the measured amount of skin will be removed. A delicate row of stitches is placed along the base of the nose to complete the lip lift procedure.
This lip lift is ideal for patients who have severely downturned corners of the mouth, producing an angry or sad appearance without frowning. A small segment of skin is removed overlying the corner of the mouth on both sides, placing a delicate incision here. The degree of lift is based on the amount of skin removed as well as the shape of the removal itself.

The direct lip lift can be performed along the upper or lower lip, or both at the same time. During surgery, a V-shaped incision inside the upper or lower lip is rearranged and “advanced,” allowing the incision to be closed in the shape of a Y. This advancement creates a lip with more fullness. This type of lip lift is ideal for patients who desire increased volume and size of their lips, without the use of dermal fillers. The stitches dissolve in about one week, and patients notice results right away.

You will not experience pain or discomfort during your procedure. However, once you are in recovery, you may feel some tightness as your incision heals. Any discomfort is easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication, gentle massage, cool compresses, and soothing lip ointment.
